Dental Veneers and Dental Laminates

Dental Veneers and Dental Laminates

Veneers and laminates are customized thin pieces of porcelain that are used for cosmetic dental purposes such as fixing discolored, chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth. They are made from dental-grade porcelain and are aesthetically pleasing. A thin layer of enamel is removed from the surface of the tooth to make room for the veneer or laminate.

What Are the Various Types of Veneers?

There are various types of veneers -

Porcelain Veneers:These veneers are made from porcelain and bonded to the teeth using dental adhesives. The dentist creates the veneers based on impressions of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are the most durable type of veneers and are force and stain-resistant.

Lumineers: Lumineers are a brand of veneers that are translucent and can be fixed on the front teeth. They are made using CEREC technology and can be customized in just one visit to our dental office.

Composite Resin Veneers: Composite resin veneers are made from dental-grade resin and require two visits to our dental office. They can be used to fix broken, chipped, discolored, and severely worn-out teeth.

What Are Dental Laminate Restorations?

Dental laminates or laminates involve placing an acrylic-like material over your teeth's surface and bonding it to the enamel. This process restores discolored, chipped, or worn-out teeth. As these restorations involve removing only a thin layer of enamel, they do not alter your natural smile as much as veneers do. Hence, they can be removed easily without damaging your natural enamel.

What Is the Procedure for Veneers?

Veneer placement is carried out in two steps - preparation and placement. During the preparation step, the dentist removes a thin layer of enamel from the surface of your tooth using dental lasers and hand-held tools. After that, impressions of your teeth are sent to a dental lab for the fabrication of the veneers. Once fabricated, the veneer is placed on top of your tooth using dental adhesives and checked for fit and comfort.

What Is the Procedure for Laminates?

Laminate placement involves preparing your tooth by removing a thinner layer of enamel. The laminates are created based on impressions of your teeth and bonded permanently with the help of adhesives.
